The Great River EQ-2NV is a dual-channel equalizer based on the classic British 1081/1083 console equalizers featuring classic LC (inductor/capacitor) topology combined with modern discrete technology
The Great River EQ-2NV is a two-channel equalizer that takes its cues from the 1081/1083 modules that were designed for the Neve 80-series consoles. But the EQ-2NV is not a reissue or clone. It takes the classic L/C (inductor/capacitor) design and significantly modernizes it, giving the EQ-2NV greater clarity and dynamic range in concert with the musicality of the vintage-era modules. The 1U rackmount EQ-2NV shares a similar topology to the vintage 1081/1083 units, but with desirable improvements, including newly designed Class-A discrete single-ended amplifiers, true inductor/capacitor (L/C) circuitry, and a unique discrete high-current Class-A balanced output stage. Tech talk aside, just like the equalizers that inspired the EQ-2NV, all it takes is a couple of knob twists and you've got that sound.
Great River EQ-2NV - Just the Facts:
- Two-channel, discrete Class-A design

- Wide range of input sensitivity from +8dbm to -20dbm with selection between line in and insert patch point
- 4 bands independently enabled with +/-15db boost/cut
- Hi and low bands selectable between peaking and shelving
- Hi-mid and low-mid bands each have 3 selectable Q positions
- 3rd-order selectable frequency high pass filter
- Hardwire bypass of equalizer section
- Internal low-noise shielded power supply (externally selectable for 110/220 volt; 50/60Hz)
- 3-year warranty with registration
EQ-2NV benefits
- Balanced +4dBU & -10dBV Unbalanced I/O
- Multi-purpose: operates with NV Series preamps and as a standalone EQ
- Effortless sound shaping and frequency manipulation
- Flexible band use; 1,2,3, or 4 bands can be used simultaneously
- Simple pushbutton selection between Q positions and peak/shelf
- Half-rack-space with internal power supply
Great River EQ-2NV - Under the Hood
To make life in the studio (and on the road) easier, the EQ-2NV has been specifically designed to integrate with the patch loop in Great River NV Series microphone preamplifiers (with a single 1/4/" TRS cable), for complete flexibility in tracking and mixing. The front-panel input selector/sensitivity switch offers the option of using the signal from the EQ-2NV's transformer-coupled line input (ranging from +8dbm to -20dbm), or the patched signal from the NV preamp. When connected via the patch loop, the four EQ sections are inserted between the microphone (or DI) input's first gain stage (with level control and metering) and the preamplifier's output gain stage and "big iron" transformer (also with level control and metering). This routing flexibility provides a broad range of sonic/harmonic possibilities and maintains a full Class-A signal path.
Great River EQ-2NV - Outside the Box
The EQ-2NV has the following front-panel controls per channel:
- Hi-pass filter. This selectable switch activates a third order (18dB per octave) hi-pass filter at the frequency indicated. The filter also has an off position.
- Bypass switch and indicator light. This button activates a hardwire bypass of this channel's equalization circuitry. The input and output amplifiers remain active. The indicator light will be red in bypass mode.
- Input selector. This selectable switch changes the input sensitivity from a nominal +8dBm level to an instrument level of +20dBm, in the steps noted. “MPI,” Mic preamp input, enables the equalizer to receive signal from the TRS patch point. This mode was designed for use with the Great River MP-2NV or ME-2NV. In MPI mode, the line input on the back panel of the EQ-2NV is disabled.
- Low band frequency selector. This switch selects the low band frequency to be boosted or cut. When in the “off” position, the peak/shelf filter indicator light will not be lit.
- Low band peak/shelf filter and indicator. This push button switches between peak and shelf mode for the low band.
- Low band boost/cut knob. This pot will boost or cut the selected low band frequency. The range of the boost/cut is +/- 15dB.
- Lo-mid band frequency selector. This switch selects the lo-mid band frequency to be boosted or cut. When in the “off” position, the Q position indicator light will not be lit.
- Lo-mid Q position selector and indicator. This push button switches between narrow, medium, and wide Q positions for the lo-mid band. The green indicator light displays the selected Q position.
- Lo-mid boost/cut knob. This pot will boost or cut the selected lo-mid band frequency. The range of the boost/cut is +/- 15dB.
- Hi-mid band frequency selector. This switch selects the hi-mid band frequency to be boosted or cut. When in the “off” position, the Q position indicator light will not be lit.
- Hi-mid Q position selector and indicator. This push button switches between narrow, medium, and wide Q positions for the hi-mid band. The green indicator light displays the selected Q position.
- Hi-mid boost/cut knob. This pot will boost or cut the selected hi-mid band frequency
- High band frequency selector. This switch selects the high band frequency to be boosted or cut. When in the “off” position, the peak/shelf filter indicator light will not be lit.
- High frequency peak/shelf filter and indicator. This push button switches between peak and shelf mode for the high band.
- High band boost/cut knob. This pot will boost or cut the selected high band frequency. The range of the boost/cut is +/- 15dB.
- When pushed in, power is delivered to the equalizer.
